The sermon on the mount-today
We will take the sermon on the mount and look at how it can pertain to us today. These scriptures were said to be in response to what Jesus’ hearers know of the law. Most likely they were. Yet I believe that looking at them in a slightly different light they can be applied to us as well.
Mat 5:3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those spiritually bankrupt, Who spiritually nothing left yet seek to filled up by God almighty for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Mat 5:4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are they that mourn over their sin for the Lord will comfort them with His salvation
Mat 5:5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are they That shows patience and gentleness towards others for they shall inherit the earth
Mat 5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
Where does righteousness come from? Christ of course. So then seek after Christ and you shall be filled with His Spirit.
Mat 5:7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
How hard is it to show mercy in this life to one that does not appear to deserve it? Show them mercy (forgive them) and God will do the same for you.
Mat 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
katharos
kath-ar-os'
Of uncertain affinity; clean (literally or figuratively): - clean, clear, pure.
This pureness comes one way only through Christ. Blessed are those who through Christ there hearts are pure.
Mat 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
Peacefulness alone will not do the trick. But blessed are those that seek peace for the sake of Christ.
Mat 5:10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
For righteousness sake or for the sake of Christ. Blessed are you who persecuted for the sake of Christ. For yours will be the kingdom of Heaven
Mat 5:11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
Mat 5:12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
